Description

NIEMEYER sofa couch Royal velvet

The NIEMEYER sofa from INSIDHERLAND is named after the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, whose architecture, like sculptural poetry, was widespread in human history. The rounded lines of the sofa are influenced by the remarkable “Casa das Canoas”, designed by Niemeyer in 1951 and built in Rio de Janeiro in 1953.

From the human point of view, the glass facade of the house disappears into the tropical forest. But when viewed from the air, the shaped flat concrete roof that floats on pillars stands in the landscape. The flat roof offers the round velvet its flowing forms, while the columns share their black tone with the darkened oak legs.

In detail, the couch is focused on the roof with its front curve, which frames a large block of granite. It is precisely the backward movement that we discover in the seams of the meticulous upholstery work that flows around the arms of the sofa.
